I am italian and i tried this method because i saw the comments. I have to say. Pasta gets cooked not in a unifor way and all the starch stays inside the pan, creating a glue that is bad for our digestion and too sticky. Starch is ok if is in small quantities. There is a technique that supposed adding a small quantity of starch water into the sauce and is called "pasta risottata". But should be not more than 80 ml of water. Cooking this way you will get all the starch that comes from the spaghetti and the coating that also is applied in the pasta right before package, that is supposed to stay in the water as much as possible. If spaghetti sticks to eachother means spaghetti quality sucks.buy better spaghetti dont screw up the rest. If i go to an italian restaurant and i get this pasta i will leave the place without eating it.

I think the guy before you was just speaking in general... Not saying you should put that nasty shit that this guy made on as sauce. More like you should just rinse your noodles in a strainer after cooking them anyway.

This is incredibly stupid. Whether you boil it in a pot or a frying pan, it still takes TIME for noodles to soften. The only reason it might be 'slightly' quicker in a frying pan, is because you are making less noodles, and they are spread thinner across a more shallow container. People will continue to boil water in a pot. This video changes nothing. NOTHING!!!! lmao

I will point out that the time IS quicker since less water is used. Less water to heat means quicker cook time. It still isn't that revolutionary.

But I like experiementing either way its gonna be cooked :pThough I can't see the difference from which way of course you do use heaps of water cooking in a pot but well..! I'll see whether its a future thing or just a never again thing xD

I take it a step further and make one -pot pasta. Brown meat,dump everything together: uncooked noodles, sauce, and water. If you add exactly the right amount of water it all gets absorbed and it turns out fine when you are cooking for yourself and don't care about impressing anybody and only want one pot to wash.

I made this the way you did it. I thought I was going to have to get a ball pin hammer and a coal chisel to get the pan clean. Also, it didn't digest right. I annihilated my bathroom. I will be burning candles for days to get the stench out of the walls. Yep, I think from now on, I will take that little bit of extra time cooking pasta the proper way.

I'm Italian. I'm Tuscan. If you think that pasta could be, cooked on your way, served as side dish, or with ketchup on top, or even with chicken pieces in it, I could not feel guilty laughing out loud when I watch 9/11 videos.

You can forget about it getting Al Dente if you do it this way... it will too soft and soggy.

if you are really worried about the amount of water being used, let the water cool and use it on your plants --- or use it to flush your toilet --- save it for soup -- add it to your bread recipe --- cook hard boiled eggs in it --- it doesn't have to go down the sink right away

Actually, what was meant by 'using it for a sauce', was to add it to your own spaghetti sauce recipe/etc. as a thickener. The starchy water after boiling pasta is often used by chefs to thicken the sauces they cook on the side, rather than adding dry flour, or other thickeners.

I don't surprising as I'm cooking this way some years and like it. I like make new ways..

Uno problemo with this technique, you cannot salt the water as it is not boiling and therefor the pasta will not get seasoned as well like doing it the traditional way.

this way of cooking pasta is what in italy commonly gets referred to as "risottare la pasta" (more or less translated to "cooking pasta as if it were a risotto"). it applies to some recipes but surely not all of them and it's best when done directly in the final sauce.

you can see the layer of slime over it when he pulls it out. starch has nowhere to go but back on the pasta. i was waiting for the oil and salt in the water but i guess it'll be substituted afterward with some ketchup and a can of pabst blue ribbon.

Not tried this yet, so can't really say how much faster it might be...

when I don't use enough water the pasta usually will stick together, did you add oil to the pasta so it would not stick together

+Nick HiebertA great way to get glue. Pasta should stay the least possible time in hot water, that's why you are supposed to put it only when the water already boils. Putting pasta in cold water you can be sure you'll have a disgusting result.

+Walter Tizzanoactually the very reason it dosent stick is, it dosent get a shock heat by entering a boiling water so when you start out from cold water, pasta actually stays seperate. What you say is true when you add them in hot water.
